Considered as a leading figure amongst Mexican poultry producers, Mr. Gutiérrez Martín currently serves as president and director of GM GROUP, which includes many main brands in Mexico. Simultaneously, Mr. Gutiérrez Martínez is President of the Board of Directors at the UNA (Union of National Poultry Farmers of Mexico).

The poultry industry has come so far, especially when it comes to genetics!

Prof. Dr. Dietmar Flock, responsible for R&D at Lohmann Tierzucht from 1969 to
1999, will take us for a journey into the past to retrace our steps and see how far we
have come in laying hen genetics with his presentation “60 Years Genetic
Improvement of Laying Hens”.

Certainly, through his 30 years of experience in such an exhilarating field, we are
definitely in for a riveting ride.

MRS. ROMINA HELLMICH

What does the future of poultry breeding behold?

Take a peek into the future with Mrs. Romina Hellmich, a doctoral student specialized in Reproductive Biotechnology at TU Munich.

During her presentation “Gene editing; bright future for poultry breeding?” we will
discover how cutting-edge technology will shape the next generations of our poultry
breeders.

Are we prepared for the changes that are to come? Only time will tell, but with Mrs.
Romina Hellmich, we will definitely have a head start.

A look into the past is provided by Prof. Dr. Josef Kamphues Professor and Director at the Institute for Animal Nutrition at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover.

DR. RENÉ P. KWAKKEL

DR. RENÉ P. KWAKKEL  He combines a job as Associate Professor at the Animal Nutrition Group with a half-time job as Programme Director of the Bachelor and Master Programmes in Animal Sciences at WU. Since 2017 he is Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta (UofA) in Edmonton, Canada.

Dr. Egon Vielitz was director of our veterinary laboratory from 1962 until 1997. Till then he is acting as veterinary consultant for the LOHMANN Group. He will talk about the “Veterinary Service at LOHMANN – the early days”

PROF. KLAUS OSTERRIEDER

The future will be handled by Klaus Osterrieder is currently Professor of Virology and Chair at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany and Adjunct Professor of Virology at Cornell University. His work has concentrated on the molecular mechanisms of herpesvirus pathogenesis, oncogenesis and vaccine development. Prof. Osterrieder will talk about the “Challenges and approaches for the continued protection against virus diseases in chickens”.

Dr. Aidan Leek  is the Poultry Business Manager, AW Ennis Ltd, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
His presentation “Future feed proteins for laying hens” will expand upon findings of his Nuffield Farming Scholarship during which he studied the potential of insects to provide a novel and environmentally sustainable source of protein in poultry nutrition.
